My great-grandfather was a veterinarian who worked for the state helping ensure healthy livestock and collective farms.

During the Doctor's Plot, he apparently made a list of Jewish doctors traitorous to the state. KGB agents came to the family dacha and asked for him. He thankfully wasn't home, on a walk in the forest. My father's cousin was quietly sent to find him and tell him not to come home. He lived and slept in the forest for a week.

Needing to make quota, the KGB found a different Jew to put on trial and took my great-grandfather off their list. He was in the right place, at the right time.
